COMMENCE AT THE DOG AND GUN - LEEMING
- Leave the lower car park, turn right and progress up hill to cross-roads.
- Cross over and continue up lane passing Sawood and Cobling.
- At the Waterworks, bear right to Hambleton Lane, west of Thornton Moor Reservoir.
- Follow the track up towards the quarries on Hambleton Top.
- Turn right over stile and follow edge of scarp passing around the head of two streams before reaching the cairns on Nab Hill.
- From here descend to the road and turn right down hill for 350 metres to bend in road.
ALTERNATIVE ROUTE AVOIDING BOGGY MOORS
Follow road around at corner ignoring road/tracks/footpaths to left and right. Follow road for approx. 1 mile to reach footpath on left just after second sharp bend. Take footpath to Intake Lane where turn left and follow to Waggon and Horses. Rejoin route here.
- Pass over right hand gate.
- Follow the wall and fence on the left uphill until it runs out.
- Follow bearing of 333° downhill looking for footpath sign near bridge which passes over Catchwater Drain.
- Continue downhill to Waggon and Horses pub. Alternative route rejoins here.
CHECK POINT - 3 MILES
- Turn left at road and continue uphill 450 metres to footpath sign on right.
- Turn right and follow grassed path which follows Catchwater Drain round to Stair's Lane.
- Turn left uphill to reach Top o'Stairs where on right hand side is Deep Nitch.
- Follow this footpath alongside wall to Oxenhope Stoop Hill.
- At the end of the wall bear 285° and eventually reach Pennine Way after approx. 1 mile.
- Turn right and follow path.
- At the ruins of Top Withins take the left hand path (Pennine Way) which becomes a sandy path leading to Upper Heights Farm.
- Just beyond Lower Heights Farm the Bronte Way is encountered coming in from the right. Follow the Pennine Way bearing left and follow to Ponden Reservoir.
- At the dam bear left and follow the road past the boating club climbing a short slope to Ponden Hall.
- Continue and bear right (leaving the Bronte Way) but still following the Pennine Way over the River Worth at the head of Ponden Reservoir.
CHECK POINT - 9 MILES
- On reaching the Colne Road turn left for a few yards and then right over the wall still following the Pennine Way signs up the field to join the Oakworth Road (do not follow the driveway past the farm, watch out for the sharp left hand turn onto grass).
- Turn left on the road for 400 metres then right uphill following the Pennine Way and wall for 1200 metres.
- The path then loops round to the left towards but not reaching the Wolf Stones on left until it meets a boundary fence looking forlorn in middle of moor.
- Turn right and follow faint path on bearing 52° to reach Maw Stones after 750 metres.
- Line up from here with the Hitching Stone (30°) (Wainman's Pinnacle behind in distance). When reaching scattered stones after 700 metres turn right across moors on bearing 94° (east).
- It will help when sighting shooting butts to make for these and follow line of same eastward where a pathway will be encountered. Continue for 600 metres to stone building (shooting box) and progress down track to road.
CHECK POINT - 13 MILES
- Turn left on meeting road and follow for 400 metres to Round Hill.
- Turn right along road for 1500 metres, passing driveway to Bottoms Farm with footpath sign on right hand side.
- A few metres after this on same side enter bridleway and follow (passing behind house on footpath sign halfway along) to meet road.
CHECK POINT - 15 MILES
Turn left and in about a hundred yards you will encounter the Turkey Inn which serves refreshment and real ale!!!
- If you are not visiting the pub, on reaching the road turn immediately right (ignore Holme House Lane on left) and follow to cross road in about 1000 metres.
- Turn left and in 400 metres (passing New Laithe Farm) enter footpath and follow along Occupation Lane to road in 800 metres.
CHECK POINT - 18 MILES
- Turn left on Keighley Road and then immediately right down Ingrow Lane.
- Follow the road to mini roundabout, take left road and follow until spying surgery on left, turn right passing Scallops Fish Shop on left and follow road to busy South Street.
- Turn right and in 100 metres left up Haincliffe Road.
- On reaching T junction turn right uphill following Hainworth Wood Road and at next T junction left up cobbled road to reach Hainworth.
- At green with trees on right (bus stop) turn right and enter road sign-posted 'Unsuitable for motor vehicles'.
DISCRETIONARY CHECK POINT - 20 MILES
- Follow Hill Top Road to Hill Top Farm and then track below quarries on Hainsworth Crag and Lees Moor Edge.
- Bingley Road is met coming in from the left and the road now descends to Barcroft.
- From Barcroft cross the busy road to Hard Gate and up the track to Brow Top Road.
- Go over the top of Brow Moor to enter Black Moor Road near quarry.
- Turn left along Black Moor Road. After 400 metres turn left down Cuckoo Park Lane passing Mount Pleasant Farm on the corner.
- On reaching the gate at Black Moor in 600 metres, pass through and turn immediately right following the wall for 300 metres up to the caravan park.
- Turn left along bridleway across moor to wall.
- Pass through wall and follow path half right (170°) through hillock to Trough Lane.
- Turn right and follow road to finish.
