From the village Hall cross the main road toward the Abbey, through the archway into the field and down to the footbridge at GR 075542. Cross the bridge and follow the woodland and riverside footpaths northwards to the bridge at the Cavendish Pavilion GR. 077553. Froth the bridge take the riverside path northwards (River on left) to the stile in the fence. Over the stile and up through the wood to the road. Turn left on the road for 300 yds to the gate at GR. 076557. Turn right through the gate and head northwards over the field to another gate to follow the track through the Valley of Desolation. After 400 yds go up the hill and past the landslip on the left, then drop down to cross the stream by the footbridge, continue to follow the path northwards eventually reaching a stile. Over ..--the stile and enter the forest then following the good track through the forest to exit by the gate at GR. 082574. Follow the track across Barden Fell to Simons Seat at GR. 078598 Checkpoint 1.
From Simons Seat take the path to Howgill in a southwesterly direction. Follow the path downhill and after I mile turn right through a gate into the forestry area descending on the track to join Howgill Lane At GR. 064592 Checkpoint 2.
Turn right on Howgill Lane for 400 yards, past the buildings, and turn left on a path signed Skyreholme. Follow this good path across the fields in a northerly direction to a footbridge. Over the bridge and up through the buildings to join the road at GR. 065604. Turn right on the road and after mile at road junction turn left towards Parcevall Hall. After 400 yards turn left through a gate, just before the main gate to Parcevall Hall. Follow the path with the stream on the right up past the remains of an old dam crossing two stiles to reach a finger post at GR 068617 Checkpoint 3 Self Clip.
From the Checkpoint bear left and take the path up through the old Quarry to each the track. Continue ahead on the track northwards to join the road at GR. 065624. Checkpoint 4. (Use of Trollers Gill has been altered and cannot be used this year).
From the Checkpoint turn left along the road towards Appletreewick for 600 yards to turn right through the gate on the track at GR. 063620 signed Hartlington. Follow the track through two gates and eventually join the walled lane at GR. 053611. Follow this lane downhill for 1 mile through two gates to cross the road at GR. 041607, then Ahead on the track to Checkpoint 5 at Woodhouse Farm GR. 040606.
Turn tight at the Farm and follow the path in a North-westerly Direction (Dales Way) over the footbridge reaching Burnsall after 1 mile. join the road, cross the bridge and rejoin the path, at the rear of the Red Lion PH, now with the river on the right. Continue to follow the path for 3 miles towards Grassington crossing the suspension bridge near Hebden eventually reaching the bridge at Linton Falls. Turn left over the bridge to reach the road. Turn right on the road and follow up the hill to the road junction at GR. 998631. Straight across (Signed Linton ¼) and after 200 yds Checkpoint 6 the Memorial Hall on the right at Linton. GR. 998630.
From the Hall turn right and follow the road, through the village, across the bridge continuing straight ahead, to the track junction at GR. 995627. Straight ahead on the track for ¾ mile, passing over a dismantled railway to reach the road at GR. 985624. Cross this road (Grassington/Skipton Road) with care and straight ahead on track signed BW Cracoe 2¼ for 1 mile to the three gates at GR. 976618 Checkpoint 7. Linton Moor.
From the Checkpoint through the three gates and straight ahead on a path following the blue marker posts across the moor to the ford and copse at GR. 972616. Over the stream and through a gate at the left hand side of the copse. Now follow the path on bearing 175 degrees to a gap in the wall corner. Through the gap and follow the wall through three fields (wall on left) to a gate. Through this gate and a further gate to join a walled lane at GR. 971608 (Swinden Lane).
Follow this lane initially south-westerly then making a left turn to the gate at GR. 974605. Through the gate and turn right, continue to follow the lane to Cracoe passing under a railway and through a gate to join the road at GR. 974598. LEFT on the road for 200 yards and turn right through a gate (signed BW Rylestone) and up a track heading in a southerly direction. Follow the track for ¾ mile. Where the track turns right, ahead through gate across field (wall on right) to gate by farm. Through this gate and further gate to join metalled road. Follow road 200 yards to Checkpoint 8 at Rylestone Church. GR. 972588.
From the Checkpoint turn left back up the road through the gate and turn right to join a track heading south-wards. Follow this track, then across the fields to the stile at GR. 974578. Over the stile and turn left on the track for 150 yards to a gate. Through the gate and up a good track. At the top of the hill through a gate and follow the bridleway across the moor (blue marker posts) to a track at GR. 997572, Continue east-wards for 3 miles on this track to the cattle grid at Halton Height Checkpoint 9. GR. 038556.
From the checkpoint cross the cattle grid and immediately turn right thorough a gate taking the track eastwards to a further gate, through this gate and now on bearing 120 degrees pass between two small hills, continue in the same direction now with the wall on your right for mile to the finger post at GR. 059554.
Turn right through the gate and follow the blue marker posts across the fields to the forest gate at GR. 067549. Follow the zigzag path downhill through the woods to exit through the gate at the bottom, then across the field taking the left of two gates. Through this gate heading Southeast past a pond on the right then through a further gate joining a track, which leads to the road. Turn right on the road and follow to the finish at Bolton Abbey Village Hall. GR. 072539.
