Park in the car park at Hutton-le-Hole and go down through the village until opposite the village hall, where left on a footpath, across fields and a stream, though woods until right on the road towards Lastingham.
After half a mile, left on a bridleway, and then bearing right and east, round the top of Lastingham village, crossing the North York Moors Crosses Walk path, keeping on around the moor edge, crossing a stream then climb to a bridleway near High Askew.
Here, left along a bridleway and carry on round the moor edge in an anti-clockwise direction, past Hartoft End until after about three miles, reaching Rosedale.
In Rosedale, bear left though the caravan park and follow the valley though a really muddy area until left across a bridge and hence to Thorgill Farm.
Here, turn right along a lane, which becomes a track, and at a derelict building, GR 697976, climb out of the valley using an indistinct path up the side of a stream, past a water-fall, crossing the old railway.
Follow the line of grouse butts over the moor top until right at the road, and in 100 yards, left at a multiple footpath sign. You are now on Blakey Rigg looking down Farndale which, in the spring, will show a glorious swathe of yellow from the daffodils.
Descend into Farndale and at the road, go straight across, down a farm track to Bragg Farm, where left along a track, then head for the farm, bearing right across fields. Straight on through three farms until meeting the road at Low Mill.
Here, left at road, left again, and in ¼ mile right at T-junction. Half a mile along the road, turn right down footpath by a farm, then follow the valley path all the way down to Lowna.
At Lowna, turn left up the road, then right down a track to Grouse Hall. At the bottom of the valley, turn left up the hill and cross the moor to return to Hutton-le-Hole via footpath.
