ROCKING MOOR ROMP

Route Description:- Long Walk (25miles)

Map :- OS Explorer No27 and small section on No26

Start:- Fewston Parochial Hall. (GR 195.542)

From Parochial Hall down road to 'T junction and turn R't along road. Follow road thro' village and over dam. Turn R't onto permissive path (Beecroft Moor Plantation) and follow waterside path to.end of reservior and into carpark and

CP.1 (GR 168.553)                                                              (2.5 miles)

From CP. cross road with extreme care (it can be very busy) and down steps opposite. Follow permissive path alongside River Washburn to footbridge over river. Cross footbridge and turn R't up path and then sharp L't and over stile next to gate. Turn R't along track to bottom of dam. Bear L't up rocky path thro' trees to car park. Cross road and turn R't onto permissive path thro' woods and along waterside to end of reservoir and road.

Turn R't up road. Near top of steep hill turn L't thro gate and follow path down and across field and over stile near house. Pass in front of house and turn R't thro' gap in fence. Pass end of house and bear L't over ladder stile. Cross field towards farm buildings and over stile. Pass farm buildings on your L't and over stile onto road. Turn R't along road a few yards then L't into Bray's Croft Farm. Turn sharp R't up path following arrows (permissive path) and then turn R't up track. Continue straight ahead with wall on your R't to stile in wall and

CP 2 (GR 127.593)                                                             (4 miles)

From CP. up track and thro' gate onto access land. Follow track for approx 2.75 miles and turn L't thro gate (GR 093.613) Down field passing stone sheepfold on your R't and thro gate in wall. Cross beck and follow track bearing R't at fork and on down to gate. Continue down passing aqueduct on your R't and thro' gate. Straight ahead on track thro' two more gates and after passing thro' small wooded area bear R't down track past Dalehead Farm on your R't and on thro' gate to

CP 3 (GR 072.603)                           (4 miles)

From CP. return up track a short distance and turn R't onto permissive path and follow up to Simon's Seat rocks at top. From rocks bear L't on path towards Lord's Seat rocks. At Lord's Seat turn R't and follow wall on your L't down to White Wham beck. Thro' gate, past shooting cabin on your L't.,and straight ahead up track against wall. When track starts to bear R't away from wall (GR.101.579) turn L't thro' gate in wall and follow wall now on your R't passing shooting butts against wall. Over stile at end of wall and turn L't onto path (Dalesway Link). Continue on path to Rocking Hall shooting lodge compound. Leave compound thro' gate in south-east wall and follow Dalesway link path down to Spittle Ings House farm and over ladder stile.

Pass gate to farm and turn R't over stone step stile in wall. Straight ahead and thro gate onto path. Follow path up with wall on your L't and then fence on your R't and thro gate at top. Bear slightly L't across field and over stone step stile in wall. Bear L't across boggy area and follow indistinct path along edge of bog to meet wall. Bear L't following wall along to gateway (To Skipton' carved on gate post). Thro gate and straight ahead following path thro opening in wall and then down towards barn in group of trees.

At barn turn L't along track. Leave track before gateway and continue straight ahead passing farm buildings on your L't. Thro gate in fence and turn R't towards road. At road turn L't to

CP 4 (GR.125.550)                      (7.5miles)

From CP. cross road with care and thro' gate. Cross beck and bear L't and follow path up hillside and thro gate in wall at top. Turn L't and follow wall on your L't and over stile. Continue straight on along path descending gradually to ladder stile in wall. Over stile and continue on, crossing beck and past cairn and boundary stone(KF1767). After passing woodland and house to your L't go thro gate and onto track. Straight on along track, cross cattle grid and turn R't over ladder stile. Cross field and over next stile. Bear R't diagonally across field and over stile next to gate in corner. Continue diagonally across field and thro' gateway and on to ladder stile at road. Cross road and over stile opposite.

Straight on along edge of field and over stile in wire fence. Cross field and thro gate and on towards pair of gates. Go thro L't hand gate and straight on and thro next gate. Pass field barn on your L't and thro gate. Turn sharp L't and follow wall to narrow stile in corner. Bear R't diagonally across field and turn L't down path thro trees and cross footbridge over beck. Continue straight ahead, keeping to wall on your L't, up fields and over stile onto road. Straight ahead past end of house and turn R't down main road to pub and

CP 5 (GR180.529)                                                                        (5 miles)

From CP. along unmade road at side of pub and at 'T' junction turn L't down road.

Shortly after passing 'private road' sign bear L't onto path between walls and over stile at end. Continue straight ahead down three fields to boundary wall of Swinsty Reservior. Turn L't along track beside wall and thro gate into Swinsty Moor Plantation. Continue straight ahead on path thro plantation to car park. Turn R't onto road and follow road over dam and thro village. Turn L't at church and up road to parochial hall and
