Out of Pickering station car park go to bend of road, go left on track, to the left of Fishing cafe car park, onto beck side path to cross stile, go diag-left over field to gate.
Ahead on minor road pass rock house (pottery), follow on path to last gate, and turn right (waymarked) in front of cottages, cross railway (with care) pass in front of cottages to footbridge and road, over road right, then left down drive to Lowther house, go to left of garages through. Gate to enter Pickering woods, through wood to cross stile and turn right, then diag—left to edge of stream, continue. On to reach footbridge over to the left then Stop—Look—Listen, before crossing railway line. To turn right up forest track, after crossing cattle grid continue on this track (beware at times there a bull and cows with suckling calves. Do not get between Cow and Calf.), to reach Blansby park farm.
Pass farm house through gate, follow track to gate in far corner. Up the field edge to gate opening on the right, through and pass to right of ruin building, aim diag-right, approx. 75 yards on swing back right at a acute angle down field to gate in edge of wood. Enter Wood, down track to clearing, swing left on green track, at track junction of path coming down the wood to the left, turn right down to leave wood, cross over footbridge to Farwath Crossing (take care) over railway line to farm yard (teas/coffee here). Leave farm to find Footbridge in hedgerow on the left, cross field to join path through woodland for approx. 1¼ miles to gate (waymarked), follow track to grass track and on to Levisham road, down the road to left hand bend, (station ½ mile down the road) at bend go straight ahead on Grass track to swing left to Skelton tower ruin, from ruin turn right contour round edge To join bridleway, and turn left on bridleway for approx ¾ mile, to turn left at small Waymarked post, follow path round above Huggitts scar to come to the top of Hudson Griff And sign (Newtondale halt path).
Go left sharply down narrow path and swing left to go down Wooden staircase to path and steps, then stile to enter wood, on path close to wire fence to footbridge and stile, cross and turn left along side of stream to railway underpass. Go through to open area (station to the right) and up to forest track, turn left for approx. 200 yards to locate marker post on the left, (if you come to barrier you have gone too far). At marker post find gap in hedgerow, and path that goes steeply up through the wood to Upper level track, and turn left up the wood to emerge at sharp bend on wide forest drive.
Go straight ahead on drive to second firebreak, and turn right to follow on and swing Left at bend, to gate in fence on the right, enter field go diag-right to gate and follow Path to forest track, and cross stile into field and diag-right down to Wardle green ruin and gate to open moor, aim half left for large stone sheep pen, then diag-left on faint Path to join bridleway and turn right, follow bridleway to join main track and turn right up to Simon Howe cairn. Turn left to cross open moor to Two Howes Rigg, pass to the left of the big cairn, follow on path to tarn, passing tarn take path to arrive at road, turn Right down road to the Mallyan spout hotel.
At hotel turn left down footpath at the right of hotel, follow down steps to beck side, turn right on board walk to enter field, and Turn left, follow path down steps and liver side to come out on old railway at incline-house, turn left on old railway and follow through to Grosmont station, and finish.
