Start Kilburn village hall GR 514795.
Turn R out of the hall to reach village square.
Cross to top left corner and Church gate.
Pass through small gate to follow narrow path crossing a dirt lane before reaching a road on a sharp bend. (It is acceptable to turn L from the hall, then L at first road to join the route at the sharp bend).
Continue on the road uphill and past High Kilburn greens to FP at side of last building on left. Ascend to stile on the right as field narrows, cross then descend to gate at roadside GR 521796. Take green lane opposite to small gate on left follow the lane through gate then head over field to sunken lane with hedge on left.
Go ahead to finger post then L through gap in the hedge to follow way marks to a bridge, cross, then uphill to a post and ahead to field corner, continue with hedge on left to bucket drop. Turn R downhill to road then L on road through village to 2nd junction on right.
Turn R down road past farm on right and take lane left.
Bear L uphill on hedge lane ignoring path on right to enter woods.
Go ahead on narrow path uphill then through gate to the Chapel at Scotch Corner GR527815 and checkpoint 1.
Continue uphill bearing L on the forest track to pass through wood, staying on the main track, L at
Shaw's Gate to reach High Town Road at GR 521822, turn R on road to reach A170. Cross with care, turn R to pass through Hambleton Inn's car park, follow track through hotel plantation.
Turn R before Hambleton House, over stile to enter fenced path (Cleveland Way).
At 2nd stile go ahead down wood side track to gate on left, pass through gate, along field side with fence on right.
At gate go ahead then R with Green Lane to reach the road to Cold Kirby GR 530845.
Turn R on road, through village then L at fork to sign F.P., go through Ailred Barn courtyard then down narrow field to gate, continue ahead to gate at bottom of field.
Go ahead with hedge on left to reach narrow road, turn L then through gate on left with wall on left through 3 fields to next road checkpoint 2 GR 532862.
Turn R through gate on left, continue N keeping fence on right to reach small gate. Go down hill on narrow path through scrub SP Murton.
At valley bottom cross a stream, through gate and over a bridge to continue uphill to a track, turn R to junction of tracks then R for 10yds. R again on path.
Continue uphill to a track, R for 40yds., then L through gate. Go through field with wall on right to single-track road.
Continue N past Murton Grange to 'T' junction, turn R on road, down steep bank, past road junction to cross Hawnby Bridge and enter Hawnby.
Turn L at right hand bend, past the Post Office to reach checkpoint 3 at Hawnby village hall 35yds on left at GR 542894.
At this point the route has been altered slightly from previous years because of flood damage to bridges.
From the checkpoint at Hawnby double back over Hawnby Bridge past the Cattery to surfaced lane on right at GR543892 (just before road junction) then follow bridleway towards Sunny bank Farm (ruin).
Before main building bear R still on bridleway to finger post (Dale Town Common) (and regain usual route).
Turn R along track to go through gate towards North Bank Woods. Continue uphill ignoring path on left, ¼ mile to gate in wall, pass through the gate, continue Westerly past High Building GR 526894.
Continue ahead through open field with wall on right to gate in field corner, go through to open moor.
Bear L along fence on broad green track, at intake wall turn R.
Keeping wall on left follow track to gate leading onto Drove Road.
Turn R SP Cleveland Way, follow track to end of Forest Plantation (Steeple Cross GR 15902). Do not go onto open moor.
Turn L down forest track. At junction of 4 tracks continue ahead (sign posted).
Bear R through the forest to join the intake wall, a narrow path on the right leads to a bridle gate and checkpoint 4 GR 485899 near Gallow Hill.
Leave the CP in a southwesterly direction and almost immediately turn sharp left on a faint path in an easterly direction into wood, downhill at first then bearing R to contour the hillside. As main path curves L. follow faint path down hill through the wood.
As the terrain levels out there is no path visible because of fallen trees (take care).
Make your way generally in a southeasterly direction to reach a gravel forest track, turn L for 20yds then R downhill on a wide track.
At a junction of tracks bear L downhill following the main track, passing empty reservoir on left, for approximately 1½ miles to reach road at Sneck Yate Bank GR 502871.
Turn R down the road for 200 yds then through the entrance to Hesketh Hall and checkpoint 5 GR 500870.
At this point the route has been altered from previous years because of flood damage to paths. Do not go on the Boltby/Gormire route.
Turn R out of the CP and continue down the road for about 100yds to bend GR499868 to follow bridleway.
Turn left at Forestry Commission gate, but do not go through this, and climb steadily following the yellow markers to checkpoint 6 at High Barn GR507867 on the Cleveland Way.
Turn right and along the Cleveland Way to checkpoint 7 on Sutton Bank in the visitors' car park.
Leave the CP to cross the A170 with care and follow the gravel path with wood on left to rejoin the escarpment edge.
Turn L on clear gravel path passing private airfield and around the headland to reach the White Horse.
Turn R down steps beyond the White Horse to reach the car park.
Leave the car park on the L and turn R down the road to a 'T' junction in ½ mile.
Turn R along Carr Lane and ahead at junction to pass Kilburn village square.
The village hall is on the left. Well Done.
