Ings Marathon

Please note this route is not on public rights of way, permission was given for it to be used on the day of the marathon only. All grid references are SE and are taken from OS Map Market Weighton sheet 106 Landranger series.

Start at the Air Museum 680 482 walk to main entrance and turn right at the road B1228, walk to and over Sutton bridge and turn left and walk on east bank of the river Derwent to Newton Mask 707 499. Turn right and walk up Mask lane to Newton, through Newton and cross over road and walk down farm track, cross bridge turn right through hedge then left, walk on south side of hedge to point 738 484 turn right and follow hedge to Low farm and on to farm track to road, at the road turn left to Allerthorpe common, at 748 477 turn right and follow path to 752.5 473, turn right follow road-, looking out for a foot path sign on your right at 754 469, follow this right of way to Pocklington canal, don't go over the canal turn right and walk on the tow path to Storwood, at 711 440 cross over bridge turn right and walk to Cemetery lane at East Cottingwith, walk up Cemetery lane turn right at the top then left through the village at 704 423. There are 3 roads you walk down the middle one, it downgrades to a farm track follow it to junction of Cow pasture lane and Ings lane 703.5 402, turn right and walk down the lane to flood bank, at the flood bank turn right and follow it to East Cottingwith, then walk along the canal bank to Storwood, cross the bridge at 711 440, turn right and walk to next bridge at 710 443.75 turn left and walk along the north side of the old course of the river Derwent, before you reach the river Derwent look out for a suitable place to cross over the old river and walk to Wheldrake bridge, cross over and turn right follow right of way to road at 690 447, turn right walking along the road to public footpath 689 451 turn right follow footpath to Elvington boundary, 692 458 turn left and follow Elvington parish boundary to 675 471 turn right and follow bank top to Brinkworth Rush, turn right and follow perimeter to Museum and finish.

I must stress again do not try to follow this route, as we only had permission to go over private land on the days we held the Ings Marathon.
