Section 1. Start at GR 012259 to Bucket Drop — 1.2 mls (Total 1.2 mls)

• TL from church hall, in 100yds, imm after going under railway bridge, TL on WM cycle route 66 and between red barriers. SA on track, railway on left. Keep to path along fence. In ½ mile at track junction, continue wall now on left. Over railway bridge. At cross roads with cycle WMs, TL along Mill Hill. Up to main road and bucket drop. GR 026260.

Section 2. Bucket Drop to Old Town CP 1 — 3.2 mls (Total 4.4 mls)

• Cross main road (CARE) and up Brearley Lane Top. At PFS (Midgeley via Brearley Lane),  into WT uphill. Continue uphill until WM at houses. SA on track.  In 60yds cross road, and follow metalled track with FPS (Foster Clough ½ mile). Before farm, FR on grass/muddy track. SA into WT and thru gate. SA at WM. At end of WT, FL at WM along path. GR 026260.
• Cross bridge over clough. Continue along fencing following WMs to go under awning at house.  Before garages with white doors, FL down WM steps. Continue to WM gate before barn and house,SA for 65 yds, thru gate and FL off track towards post (WM). Continue to derelict barn and over stile at wall.. Continue to hen huts, FL downhill. SA up potholed tarmac. At hairpin bend, SA on track. Continue for ½ mile, then TL down road. In 600 yds on sharp right hand bend, opposite Burlees Lane road sign, TR on Bridleway. GR000272.
• In 220 yds, TL, thru small metal gate. Downhill on path thru 3 more metal gates to reach road. SA across road and down grassy bank into woodland, over bridge, TL and in 20yds, at WM, FR uphill. SA on road past terraced houses on right. In 125 yds just before garages TR up steps. Steeply uphill and over stile. SA up 3 fields to metal gate and stile into WT. Bear right and pass old mill. At T-junction TL to CP 1 GR 998286.

Section 3. Old Town to Slack CP 2 — 3.1 mls (Total 7.5mls)

• SA across road along Bridleway. Pass chapel and in 15yds FL to left of turreted house. In 40 yds keep to wall on left and SA into narrow walled path. Follow wall on right to go over stiles between houses and TL down tarmac to T-junction. TR and in 20 yds FL down drive, thru stile next to gate of "Akroyd". In 35 yds TL at small "path" sign on ground just before buildings. GR995291.
• Down steps, TR to  stile, thru and down field, wall on left to KG at road. Cross  (CARE) and TR. In 20 yds left thru KG into field. Follow WMs to stream and over wooden stile. SA down cobbles and cross bridge. Continue along obvious path for 700 yds to road. TR and pass car park. In 50 yds at post with red and white markings, FL off road. GR988291.
• TR at T-junction. At wooden fencing go SA (not down steps on L) eventually descending to FP along stream. In 250 yds,right up wooden steps. SA at red ringed WM post. In 25 yds  TL to stream and FR along it for ½ mile. At white building on left bank cross stepping stones and TR to picnic area (or continue up stream to bridge at Gibson Mill to return on opposite bank to white building). GR973296.
• At first bench, TL uphill and thru stile in wall. TL on track. When track hairpins right, SA on path (in 10 yds ignore steps to right). with In 400yds bear left over open area, go past National Trust sign facing direction of travel and now climb more steeply towards wall uphill on right. FL over prominent tree roots at GR 977291. Wall becomes fence, (ignore path down to left), climb steps to continue with fence on right. Thru stle into field, SA wall on left. Thru next stone stile, TR up WT to CP 2 GR 978287.

Section 4. Slack to Eastwood CP 3 — 3.1 mls (Total 10.6 mls)

• Cross road, SA at FP sign, thru narrow stile to right of gate. Follow path and TL at T-junction. At next junction of paths, sharp TR thru hidden stile onto paved way. At house and WM,SA. TL WM Bridleway (Colden Clough) and in 80yds FR. SA on enclosed path. SA on paved way. SA at metal gate. In 70yds, TL and go thru stile.GR 971283.
• TR along paved way over stile into trees and follow WMs with wall on right eventually descending to footbridge, and over stream. FL at WM and  up steps. SA across track and enter WT. After 3 stiles, imm TR towards houses. In 170yds, after double metal gate on left, TL up fenced path, over stone stile into field and bear 230° over 3 fields and thru wooden gate in corner. GR 965279.
• Cross track and thru gate and continue on same line of travel over 5 more fields to metal gate, where left down fence towards houses and road at Blackshaw Head. Cross road to follow CW FPS, in 15 yds FR with track to go thru black metal gate, FR and over stile to paved way. Thru WM KG. Over WM stile to left side of house. Over 2 more stiles to cross track. GR 959273.
• SA CW. Over stile, SA over muddy field and 2 stiles to building at Hippins. In 70yds, TL on CW link path. Follow wall on left then TR at FPS (Jumble Hole Clough) GR960 270. Down to bridge over stream TL. Pass mill ruin keeping right uphill and in 30yds,TL at hidden WM path. Follow downhill for 400yds.  SA along concrete track. Track hairpins left and right over bridge and down Pennine Bridleway following stream. GR 966265.
• At buildings, SA to CP3 in mill on left. GR 968264.
• Leave CP , continuing on Pennine Bridleway and before railway arch, TR. At next junction, SA at WM and in 45yds, TL over railway footbridge to reach road. Cross road  (CARE) into Menzolit car park.  GR 968 260.

Section 5. Eastwood to Broadhead Clough CP 4 — 3.4 mls (Total 14.0 mls)

• Cross river and canal bridges, FL and in 80yds sharp TR off road onto WM path. Uphill for 500yds, continuing on main path which bears left into WT. In 50 yds, (ignore WM path to right), SA. Pass ruin below on left. Thru gate and SA following wall and fence on right to WT. TL at T-junction. SA at farm and pass old green vehicle blocking path. GR 972251.
• Follow WT which bends left to gate. Thru gate and imm TR at wall corner, soon into WT. Continue with wall then fence on right. SA over wooden stile. In 100yds, right over WM stile and TL with wall on left. SA on Pennine Way with wall on left. Over stile to track and up steps at FPS (Pennine Way and Stoodley Pike), SA uphill on grassy path for 500yds. GR 978243.
• TL at stile in wall and walk either side of wall towards conifers where bear left to enter WT  FPS (Dick's Lane). Plantation now on right. Thru metal gate. At 4-fingered FPS, ahead 50° to telegraph pole and 1^st boundary stone (BS)  next to it. GR 987248.
• Then 70° to 2nd BS . Now on faint path at about 40°, then 60°, to 3rd BS  (ignore lobsided boundary stone to right) where FR still on faint path, 70° initially. In 80yds FL 100°. Over brow of hill, aim for yellow topped marker post which should be to your left. At WM, sharp TR on narrow path steeply down to wood. Over stile and TL into Broadhead Clough. Follow path thru wood for 700yds to CP 4 GR 000250   (14.0miles).

Section 6. Broadhead Clough to New Road CP 5 —  3.0 mls (Total 17 mls)

• TR FPS (Bellhouse Moor). FL to pass in front of house, climbing and thru gate posts and TL on enclosed path. After 3rd stile, TL downhill on track passing houses on left. Thru WM gate to right of metal gate and down enclosed path. At wooden fencing, TR over stile, FPS (Spa Bridge). Follow stream and then fence on left downhill to WM stile by gate. Over and SA to small bridge.GR 005244.
• TL(ignore WM post).In 15yds, 165° across rough ground picking up path to wall, FL and follow grassy WT to stile into wood. Downhill thru wood to road, where TR and soon TL at WM and thru gate. Across 2 fields into wood. Steeply uphill on path. At WM TL, soon with wall on right. Thru gate and TL over bridge. Imm TR at WM up concrete path. Continue past cottages. GR 005237.
• At sharp right hand bend, SA into field, fence on right. At houses at Cragg Vale, thru 2 gates and head towards church. TR over bridge to Hinchliffe Arms. TL at FPS (Higher House Moor). In 150yds TL at WM FPS (Green Bank). Continue thru gate onto muddy path and then green path along wood. FR keeping wall on right. GR 000229.
• Continue thru wood rising steadily for 500yds and when path broadens and levels, FL downhill behind large tree GR 002 225. Over WM stile.In 115 yds left over footbridge and up steps towards houses. Pass to right of houses up steps to road, and TR. TL after next house on left by de-restriction sign. Up track and over stile at right of gate. Between conifers and wall to stile. Up field, wall on right. Over WM stile and SA to stile onto road and CP 5 GR 005 219.

Section 7. New Road to Little Scout Farm CP 6 —  3.5 mls (Total 20.5 mls)

• SA on rough track to bend, where SA thru metal gate and on enclosed track to further WM gate. SA wall/fence on right. TR at wall/fence corner to stile. Over and TL thru gate and on WT.  At WM gate, TL GR 012221 on WT. Thru metal gate and at wall corner TL at FPS (CW). Thru gate or over stile to continue on road. SA at cross roads on CW.  TL at next FPS (CW). Thru gate and in 50yds at rubbish dump TR. GR 009231.
• Follow walled path on right (keeping in field) and go over 2 stiles in corner (looks like fencing) and onto gravel track. TL downhill. Thru dwellings with stable. In 80yds thru wooden gate on right into copse. Wall on right and SA to WM gate. In 20 yds TR over stile and TL on track which becomes walled. Stick to obvious track downhill following  bends. GR008238.
• At sharp left hand bend, by house with chromium chimney, TR over stile to go round house down narrow steps to track. SA downhill to metal gate on right. Thru stile to left of gate and follow wall on left to WM stile and gate into garden, continue on paving in front of houses, at tarmac TR uphill. In 10 yds TL onto grassy track. Into woods at red gate. GR 009241.
• Follow wall on left. In 50 yds, SA wall still on left (ignoring track to right uphill). In 150 yds, FR slightly uphill, away from wall. At stream FR still climbing to enter WT. Path descends gently to red gate with stile, thru and in 230yds, near end of wood, path begins to climb towards wall on left. Follow uphill to stile in corner. SA thru stile.GR 011248.
• At end of WT, thru gate, TR, and thru barrier into enclosed path uphill. At low barrier, SA with wall on left. Thru stile by gate, SA up cobbled path. At right hand bend, TL up WM steps behind holly bush. SA between fence and wall. Over wall and 70° across field to fence. Follow fence crossing 3 walls. At end of fence, over stile and descend gently towards wood. SA to CP 6 at road. GR 025254.

Section 8. Little Scout Farm to Finish — 1 ml (Total  21.5 mls)

• TR on road and in 40 yds left thru stile next to metal gate. Steeply downhill to gate on  left. Thru and continue downhill to track. Imm TL to go thru new gates passing in front of farm. Thru stile to right of metal gate. SA across field, over 2 stiles. Fence now on right. Thru gate and in 30 yds thru left hand of 2 metal gates. Follow fence on right, thru stile by metal gate and into WT. GR 022257.
• Pass metal barrier and FR downhill to house and thru small gate. Thru paved garden in front of house and buildings onto road. In 200yds TR at first WM, in 10 yds TL along path, following WMs and fence on right. SA to WM gate, thru and SA with green fence on left to reach car park. At Shoulder of Mutton TR on road, under railway bridge and in 100 yds, before bridge TR into Church Street to hall and finish. GR 012259.  WELL DONE.

Section 9 SHORT ROUTE ONLY. Eastwood to Finish — 3.5 mls (Total 14.1 mls)

• Cross river bridge and before canal bridge, FR down to canal , TL under bridge. In 1.80mls at lock no. 9 (BLACK PIT), TR over bridge and TL to walk on right hand side of canal. Pass playing field on right to end of green fence. Go under bridge and, in 50yds at Mayroyd Mill House on right., leave canal and continue in same direction on rough road. In 100yds, over river bridge and before railway bridge, TL on cycleway. GR995265.
• In ½ mile, SA thru small industrial estate and in 300yds reach road. SA along Caldene Avenue. In 500 yds, over bridge and TR along main road. TR before traffic lights, over bridge and TL into Church Street to hall and finish GR 012259. WELL DONE.
