Leave venue, cross Rd. With Care, and turn L. Take first turn R into concrete Rd. At end of Rd. turn half R. Pass through earth bank and ahead to cross FB. Ahead to road.
TALLY DROP: You MUST place your plastic tally in the bucket. The bucket will be placed at 10 a.m. and will be manned.
Cross Rd, With Care, and turn L. In 100 m. turn R into lane. Ahead to turn R over hidden stile. Cross field half L to pass through broad gap. Cross next field to stile in far RH corner. In 10 m. R over FB and up bank ahead. Continue to cross path and turn L on narrow FP across overgrown area to reach sports field. Ahead, turn L in 20 in., between bushes, to descend slippery bank. Cross FB and turn R.
Continue to fork where stream swings away to R. Take LH fork, for approx. 50 m. to reach landscaped area. Turn L, with hedge on L and follow hedge-line to join track (football pitch on R). Ahead, passing scrap-yard on R, to T-junc. Turn L to reach Rd. in approx. 250 m.
Turn L on Rd., which becomes a track after last house. Follow track for approx. l Km
When you reach concrete bridge, do not cross, turn R with stream on L to reach flood-bank of R. Dearne Turn L and follow to pass through metal gate. Join tarmac, turn L to pass through further gate to Car Park.
CHECKPOINT 1 (3.2 Miles / 5.12 Km.) Grid Ref. 474 023.
Return through gate, turn L, to pass through further gate to Rd. Cross Rd. to kissing gate. Pass through gate and ahead on flood-bank for approx. l Km. Over stile and pass footbridge, (do not cross). Continue on flood-bank (eventually with white fence on L) for approx. 350 metres to pass through metal gate.
Ahead up slope to track-bed of old railway and follow it to junc, ignore R fork and ahead over stile. Continue to steps, bridge, stile and Rd. Cross Rd. diagonally R to enter Car Park.
CHECKPOINT 2 (5.3 MILES / 8.5 Km.) Grid Ref. 498 009.
Return to Rd, turn R for approx. 200 m. to junc. Take signed FP, which goes off diagonally R, from junc. corner. Follow FP over fields, FB and stiles to Rd. Turn R on roadside FP and follow to top of hill. Cross Rd, With Care, to enter Hangman Stone Lane. Continue to junc.
Turn R and follow to gap/stile. Ahead to join track and forward to way-mark post on sharp L.H. bend. (Short route leaves). Turn R on narrow FP between fields. At way-mark post, turn L across field passing to R of elec. pole, to enter Melton Wood. Ahead through wood, ignoring all side paths & tracks, to reach stone gateposts at end of wood.
Cross field half L aiming for stone gateposts near lone tree. Ahead on track to Rd. Turn R to T-junc. with main A635 Rd in Marr village. Cross With Care.
CHECKPOINT 3 (9.56 MILES / 15.3 Km.) Grid Ref. 513 074.
Turn L on SP FP and ahead to Rd. Cross half L With Care, to enter signed FP with barbed wire fence on your R.
In approx. 200m (at end of wood on R) a track joins from R. Go L and R with track to reach T-junc. with broader track. Cross track, half R to join FP between fields. Continue, ignoring all side tracks and paths, until Rat Hall Farm is reached. Ignore track to R between barns and immediately enter small barn on R (Green Door).
CHECKPOINT 4 (10.9 MILES / 17.5Km) Grid Ref. 499 083.
Leave building and turn R, ahead between house on R and garage on L to enter field. Ahead on field edge with hedge on L to reach cross track. Ahead over track to enter green lane, with hedges both sides. Follow to T-junc.
Turn L then R into signed tarmac FR Follow to Rd in Hooton Pagnell. Turn L on Rd TAKE CARE ON Z-BEND. Ignore R turn (S/P Clayton) and pass church and Hall. Ignore L turn (S/P Brodsworth), pass cricket field on L and ahead to sharp L.H. bend.
CHECKPOINT 5 (12.43 MILES / 19.9 Km) Grid Ref. 484 074.
Ahead through gates into track, and follow this for l Km. to where it becomes edge of field and then disappears. Approx. 15 m. before it disappears, turn L on narrow but distinct FP into wood. (Please follow the route described. Do not use FP. shown on current O.S. Maps, which leaves lane on 1. and crosses the field, cutting the corner. This has been officially diverted.)
After approx. 250 m. at path junc. with way-mark post, turn R on FP. Ahead down field edge, with ditch on R, to stile. Over stile and ahead, with barbed wire fence on L to next stile at Stotfold Farm. Over stile to join track and ahead, passing to L of farm house. Ignore stile on R and continue on track to T-junc.
Turn L on track for approx. 400 metres to Rd. Turn left on Rd to join main A635 Rd on large bend in Hickleton village.
CHECKPOINT 6 (14.2 Miles / 22.7 Km) Grid Ref. 479 053.
Turn R using footpath /verge on R.H. side of Rd and ahead for approx. 1.5 Km. Where new bypass begins keep to FP until it ends. CAREFULLY cross road just after first KEEP LEFT bollard. Take left fork and follow FP on LH side until it ends.
Cross road, WITH CARE, to RH FP and continue into Goldthorpe, ignoring all side Rd's and tracks, to reach The Goldthorpe P.H. on R.
