Leave Fountains Hall GR 273 682, Pass through the main gates T/L over the River Skell to Y junction. T/R uphill to T junction, NB tallies required here. T/R for approx. 25 yards then L over a stile to follow field paths to Sawley GR 250 674. This section will be flagged. There could be some delays here, please be patient and use the official stiles only. At Sawley road T/L to the T junction and a sign (FP). Cross three fields to join a track to Laken Hall. TR to hall then R between the buildings to a bridle gate. Cross the stream T/R to climb the hill to the L corner of Manor Allotment Wood and C/P1 GR 242 665 green lane.
T/R to the end of the lane, then head diagonally across the field to a gate into the wood at Picking Gill. Descend the hill to Butterton Bridge below the lake. Cross the Gill to follow a sunken track uphill to a gate at the edge of the wood. Continue uphill over fields to Warsill Hall GR 235 659 and a stile to the R of the farm. Turn L, go through a gate then R along a wall and past a copse to a lane. T/L along the lane to Rabbit Hill Farm. T/R behind the farm down a green lane to Low Farm GR 236 649. Pass through the farm yard (negotiated path) T/R on a farm track, then a road before crossing Thornton Beck to reach a T junction GR 222 641 below Riva Hill (clip check).
T/R on the green lane then a path across Brimham Moor to reach a motor road, GR 209 644 T/R then L through the car parks to C/P2 GR 208646
From the C/P continue up the drive to the café GR 206 650 T/L between the rocks (flagged) to a track. T/R and follow this to the farmhouse at GR 197 652 T/L in front of the house to the ford at Fell Beck. Cross beck to stile on R then follow wall to Whitehouses. Pass between buildings take 2nd L (green lane) to join a motor road at sharp bend. T/R then L along a walled path to a 2nd road, T/L downhill crossing the B6151 to enter Glasshouses. C/P3 is at the river bridge GR 171 643.
T/R along the E bank of the River Nidd all the way to Pateley Bridge. Cross the main road, down the lane opposite the R of the house on a F/P to the river. The flood bank joins an old railway, leave this after four fields to re-join the river at Wath Bridge GR 145 677. Cross the road to follow F/P to the Dam Wall GR 142 684 B/R uphill to a track. T/L alongside Gouthwaite Reservoir to C/P4 GR 123 712.
T/R up the walled lane to a Y junction B/R on the old road to a gate on Fountains Earth Moor. C/P5 GR 146 725.
TR along the wallside, East side, past Kettlestang Hill to a marker. This is not a right of way. B/L over boggy ground to join the track on Dallow Gill Moor, flagged route. T/R on the track to the motor road at GR 192 691 and C/P6.
Leave the C/P on a bearing of 48o flagged, do not follow the track but aim for the corner of the wall ahead, then a gate in the distance. Pass to L of the farm ahead to join a concrete drive at Skell Gill GR 204 695. After 1km opposite a farm T/R on F/P to Skelding Grange. Pass to R of the farm, to a gate, then by the fieldside to another gate. B/R to cross fields to the East to a farm. Pass between the farm buildings then on F/P over three fields to the farm at GR 224 697. Follow F/P over three fields to a road T/R, East to a Y junction T/L into Grantley to C/P7 GR 233 699.
Pass PH to F/P on R, descend three fields to Risplinth Road. Go downhill to the entrance to Grantley Hall. GR 239 694 T/L through the gates (negotiated access). Go down the drive to the bridge on L. T/L over stream then R on a cat track to a bridge before the wood. T/R over stream then L on tarmac drive to the main gates. T/L for 60 yards, T/R into Spa Gill Wood to follow the clear cart track beside the River Skell to join Fountains Abbey Road GR 268 682 T/R down the road to re-enter the main gates of the Abbey.
