From Peaslake Memorial Hall (GR 085447) exit to your L and go up paved BW opposite, passing church on your R. At the end of this path go through/round metal barrier.
Pass graveyard on your R. Ascend gently on broad sandy TK for 600m then, at large triangular clearing FR. Cont. gentle ascent and in 750m cross broad TK. At next junction keep ahead ascending gently then leveling out. Follow TK as it bears R round edge of PITCH HILL passing a waymark post where GW joins from L, then a metal seat at a viewpoint. At junction, BL round edge of hill and at next GW waymark post BL to seat and PITCH HILL MEMORIAL TOPOSCOPE. Retrace steps for 20m and TL to trig point. Follow TK ahead (320°), for 400m, down to car park and TL. Cross RD (care) and cont. on GW, on drive for 20m, thro' gate, ahead uphill on eroded FP and BL off main track to pass windmill on your L. Continue ahead (240°) for 80m then BR (250°) and, crossing two BW's, descend on FP to cross RD (care). FL through car park to FP (GW) and follow round edge of hill.
Cont. on FP, passing viewpoint with seat on L. In 240m FL and cont. on undulating FP round edge of hill. BL, before RD, parallel with RD to later join RD with hollow on L. Cross RD (care) and follow signposted BW (340°). At fork keep ahead (L). 15m before FG BL and then FR (290°), descending on BW. Follow hedge (on your L) and turn R on drive of Winterfold Cottage (GR 064431). FL just before RD, cross and cont. on TK opposite (300°). After 170m pass stile on your R and, after 10m, where TK bears R keep ahead up bank on narrow path (not shown on Landranger map; shown as a black dotted line on the 1:25000 maps) passing house and stables on your R, passing around and behind trees, some fallen.
After 100m TR on TK. At end of paddock on R, BR with fence and young conifers on your R. Cross TK and go ahead on FP (10°). Pass to R of permissive BW sign and in 80m over stile hidden by bushes. Cont. ahead up LH edge of 1st field; over stile (or through often open gate) and ahead; 20m over the ridge TL and over stile next to metal gate. Cont. with fence, and view, on your R. (This path is shown as a black dotted line on 1:25000 maps). In 100m the view extends to BLATCHFORD DOWN and STEER's FIELD (below Ranmore Church (55°) on the skyline) and beyond. At meeting of sandy TKs TR between plantations with fence on your right (330°). At the cross tracks soon after the fence ends take the wide BW ahead (330°) and keep ahead (340°) at the next crosstracks. Reach RD and cross to (former) car park.
From entrance cross former car park — currently used as a timber store — on bearing 345° for 80m to Hurtwood Control sign. Continue on waymarked BW (due N). Descend on wide track. Cont. on sandy TK keeping ahead (350°) and in 400m over crossing TK. Pass paddock and houses beyond seen through trees to your R. Cross waymarked FP and ascend, then keep ahead across two TKs. At third TK junction look for waymark post with numbers 230 and 232 cut into it. Cont. ahead crossing 2 more TKs. 70m after 2nd TK the TK swings L with waymark post on R and in another 30m crosses TK with waymark post on L.
In 190m at TK junction (GR 046464) cont. ahead (340°). In 150m at another junction cont. ahead (310°) and in 40m descend on sunken FP. At finger post in valley bottom TR. In 210m TL on TK, at T-junction, to pass farm cottages on L. Soon BL at path junction (Albury Estate sign), then BR (through possible barrier) and continue ahead for 700m, with field on L. Pass large house on L, over 2 stiles, cont. on FP (300°) across field, through gate and cont. At Lockner Lodge TR on lane to follow Downs Link signs. Cross A248 (care) and cont. on Downs Link. At BW junction (after Longfrey Farm) TR and follow Downs Link for 800m, uphill, to information board. TR to pass pillbox on your L and descend, soon with row of low posts on your R. Soon after posts end BL to follow FP and cont. into car park and CP1.
From car park TR on lane and in 40m TL on BW between fences. In 500m cross TK, ahead through gate (oxhead waymark) and continue on TK across field (110°). In 250m through gate, and continue ahead on BW which descends to TK. TL and in 10m TR to pass cottages on your R.
Keep ahead on TK and in 500m, at cottage on R, follow Silent Pool Footpath (110°) and immediately over stile next to metal FG. Continue ahead (110°) on TK then soon BR (130°) on FP where it leaves TK, next to Private notice on R.
In 250m cross concrete access RD to quarry and cont. for 400m on FP, crossing 3 stiles (some may be broken) to RD. Cross A248 (care) and ascend with church on your R. Cont. ahead over stile and then ahead across field and into Silver Wood. Keep ahead through wood and across field (125°) then descend through trees to TL on lane. When lane joins RD cross over, TL and cont. for 30m. TR on FP, beside Manor House sign. In 130m FP bears right and is parallel with A25. When main track BR, cont. ahead on narrow FP, through trees, until sunken cross track. TR and descend for 60m then TL to head north and go under A25 (GR 072482). Cont. uphill for 900m (soon becoming 60°) and at top TR on waymarked cross tracks onto NDW. Follow NDW for 2.4km then FR (take care, easily missed) to NDW finger post. TR and follow 2nd NDW finger post (possibly broken/missing) for a further 900m to enter BLATCHFORD DOWN at NT signpost. Ahead for 300m to another NT BLATCHFORD DOWN signpost.
Through KG, cross TK and through 2nd KG. Continue on NDW following acorns for 1km. Leave NDW, where it turns R to descend to RD, and continue ahead on narrow winding path (shown as black dotted line on 1:25000 maps) which curves L round edge of ancient pit. Do not take path over bank to R but keep ahead on narrow path soon with sharp drop on your R. Cont. ahead and in 110m join TK coming from L for 70m, leaving it to pass beside railings of reservoir on your L. At end of railings, at T-junction, TR on TK. In 50m TL on TK which soon straightens a bit and becomes a BW going slightly W of N. Cont. across TK (SHEEPWALK LANE) and ahead on FP to RD. Cross RD and proceed up drive opposite for 80m.
TR at FP sign before gate to buildings. Follow TK as it bends L then go ahead on narrow path between fence and building. Over the stile T½R (70°) to go to stile beside FG at far corner of field. Cont. across next field on same bearing to a stile that becomes visible as you approach it. Over stile TL immediately on footpath winding through wood. FR near RD (CRITTEN LANE) and cross to KG. Follow FP eastwards, crossing 2 stiles and cont. on drive. Cross RD (HIGH BARN ROAD). Go ahead on drive opposite and when drive bends R cont. ahead on FP. Cross next RD (STONYROCK ROAD) and descend path opposite past Hogden Cottage's garages.
Cross TK (Hogden Lane) at bottom and cont. ahead uphill. Cross TK at top and descend to next bottom where T½L (to second ride on L) and go through (perhaps broken) barrier (45°). Keep ahead on grassy glade, bearing L where another broad glade joins from the R. Go through barrier and pass Lonesome Cottage on your L. BR with the TK. Pass through barriers each side of a crossing TK and cont. on grassy glade. In 70m BL through another barrier and cont. on a wide track between beech trees descending to a cottage (Prospect Lodge, GR 134515).
Before gates TR on TK descending more steeply (care) before rising to give view of Polesden Lacey on your L. Cont. ahead to the ALAN BLATCHFORD MEMORIAL SEAT and CP2.
From Memorial Seat retrace steps for 5m. FL on TK and in 20m FL again. Follow this wide track for 1,100m to emerge beside Fox Cottages. TL on roadside grass and in 200m TR to cross RD (care) to car park. TR at NT Notice Board, through gate, to enter STEER's FIELD.
Keep ahead (170°) across field then steeply downhill (with care, can be slippery). Go through KG and steeply down (care) through wood crossing broad track, then ahead across field to cross railway. Continue on FP over 2 fields; through FG and TL. At next FG cont. ahead. In 300m at TK junction keep ahead with hedge on R. At next stile, cross and ahead on FP, with electric fence on L. in 90m at cross paths, over stile and TL. At next stile, cont. Later, at second stile TR over Pipp Brook on FB and soon continue on rough drive to RD.
Cross busy A25 (great care) and go down Milton Street (Westcott). Where tarmac ends go through KG. In 90m TR over FB and cont., soon with fishing ponds on your L. TR to cross FB (by stile), cross field (235°) to corner of copse and BL over stile, between fences, with copse on L. In 220m over 2nd stile and FB, thro' KG , then BL on TK to RD.
TL on RD (care) and immediately TR on hard TK to Logmore Green. Where hard TK ends cont. through gate on BW and in 100m turn ½ L (215°) on FP uphill to stile. Go ahead across field to cross stile to TK. TL and immediately TR downhill, crossing byway, for 30m then TL over stile on FP beside Stable Copse. At stile TL on GW for 120m then TR over stile onto FP (250°) to cross bridge over the Tillingbourne between fishponds. Follow path as it winds steeply uphill, crossing stile into woodland, and through KG to RD (Sheephouse Lane), GR 131462. Cross RD (care), thro' 2nd KG and cont. ahead on FP, ignoring path on R; after 500m the path descends steeply (care). Cross broken fence then TL before a bridge. Follow TK, BR at cottage and continue ahead to X-RD, signed Friday Street. TR and follow path on L above road, up steps to car park and CP3.
From CP3 take FP, 230° (to L of notice boards), winding through woods in SW'ly direction. At X-Tk's keep ahead (2400). Cross RD (Hollow Lane — care) to FP and cross another RD. Cont. ahead on FP on L of Pasturewood Cottage (GR 119455).
After some 900m and a steep descent (care) cont. ahead to RD. TL on pavement for 120m. At Pond House cross RD (care) to FP beside 30mph sign. The FP bears L climbing gently. In 100m just before it reaches the corner of back gardens TR to go steeply up an indistinct and narrow FP through trees to meet a wider path on which TR. Keep to FP (310° — 330°) through pinewood. After 160m FP descends to cross broad BW and ascends bearing slightly R. Keep ahead at top and pass between Hurtwood Control notice (on L) and grass-covered concrete cylinders and barrier (on R), near entrance to hostel (large house set back behind car park). In 140m cross TK and in 10m FR (310°) to join TK from L. Cont. on broad TK which bends L in descending then bears R at pond on your L.
Cont. ahead (270°) on TK as it ascends briefly and then descends to next valley where FR (300°) for 60m, then, 20m before gate with notice Private No Right of Way BL on FP with boundary bank and fence to your R for 165m to BW. After crossing BW, BL and then BR (230°) on FP which runs parallel to fence with paddock and house on your R. Continue on FP, bearing R with fence on your R. After fence ends, cont. on FP to cross wide BW and ascend wide FP opposite. Keep ahead through barriers along FP between fences. Pass through more barriers and ahead along drive. Cross lane and through more barriers to descend steeply (care) to Radnor Road. TR and cross Ewhurst Road to Walking Bottom. BL between The Hurtwood Inn and THE OLD POST OFFICE (now Peaslake Pet Provisions) to the FINISH.
