From the Kelham Fox public house follow the main road A617 keeping to the right hand side footpath. Take the first turn right Broadgate Lane. Continue along Broadgate Lane for approx ½ mile. Turn left up the track on left sign public, footpath. Follow track for approx ½ mile, when track ends bear right along edge of the field keeping hedge on left for approx 70 yards, then turn left over foot bridge into the field. Keep to the right hand side of field over another footbridge still keep to right hand side (please do not short cut across field). On reaching a wide track turn left and ignoring other tracks keep on main track to eventually reach a main road. A Marshall will be there. Please take care. Cross over main road and turn left into Averham village. Go past the school on your right and then take the first turn left, Staythorpe Road, then take the first left again into Church lane to reach checkpoint 1 at bottom of lane.
From checkpoint 1 follow track over the bridge, then turn left keeping the ditch on your left hand side. At the bottom corner of the field turn right keeping to the edge of the field, with the river on your left hand side. On reaching the railway line, go under the archway nearest to the river and follow the river bank path to the end of the field. Turn right keeping the fence on your left hand side and go to the left hand corner of the field. Go over the stile, keeping the high green fence on your right hand side towards the river. Turn right on to the concrete footpath keeping the high fence on your right and the river on your left. Keep following the concrete path to the left of the brick building, and then drop down to the grass path through the trees. The river should again be on your left hand side. When you reach the field, with the electric pylon in front of you, bear left along the edge of the field. To reach the second field: follow the path on the left hand side of the field. Bear right, still on the edge of the field and keeping the small ditch on your left hand side, until you reach a footbridge. Go over the footbridge into the field. Go across the field bearing 160°. DO NOT GO AROUND THE EDGE OF THE FIELD. On reaching the end of the field, turn right keeping the wire fence on your left hand side, and the newly planted trees on your right hand side. Follow the track in the left hand side of the field, keeping the river on your left. IGNORE any other footpath signs. Go through the metal gate, still on the same track until you reach another metal gate.
DO NOT GO THROUGH METAL GATE INTO CAR PARK. Go through white gate and keep to riverside path. IGNORE any other footpath signs and keep to riverside path. You will eventually come to a newly built property at the edge of the river. Keep the riverside path with the new property on your right. You will then come to some railings at the side of the river. Follow the riverside path at the side of the railings to reach checkpoint 2 at Fiskerton.
From checkpoint 2 follow tarmac path at side of the river passing the Bromley Arms on the right hand side. Ignore any other footpath signs and keep to river side path which becomes a grass path. Ignore any other foot path signs and keep to the riverside path. You will eventually pass Hazleford lock on your left hand side. Keep following the riverside path with the river on your left. There are a line of trees keep trees on your left. Ignore any other turns or foot path signs. You will see ahead of you a large white building. When you get there go through the gate and go straight ahead, passing a caravan park on the right hand side. Keep to riverside path. You will eventually pass a large lake on the right hand side, also over to your right you will see a boating club (a blue building). After passing the lake you will come to a white metal gate with a small gate at the side go through gate into a large field. DO NOT BEAR LEFT AND FOLLOW EDGE OF RIVER. Take the wide track across field to reach checkpoint 3 at Hoveringham.
After checkpoint 3 at Hoveringham turn right on road passing large house on left hand side which is the old Elm Tree. (Flease keep to footpath). You will pass Lodgefield Lane on right hand side; ignore any other footpath signs. You will then come to Main Street Hoveringham. Turn right and follow Main Street, passing the bus shelter on right hand side. Fassing the Marquis of Granby Pub on right hand side and the Reindeer Inn on left hand side. Follow Main Street along. Just past the speed restriction sign there is a footpath sign on the right hand side. IGNORE THIS SIGN. Carry straight on passing Brookfield Drive on your left hand side; you are now on Thurgarton Lane. Keep to right hand side of road going over small bridge with concrete posts and metal railings. Please take care on the corners of the road. Take the next foot path sign on right hand side through a gateway and keep to right hand side of field following path with ditch then stream on right hand side. IGNORE ANY OTHER FOOT PATH SIGNS. You will pass a small concrete bridge on right hand side. Ignore that and keep to edge of field to eventually reach a track. Go over track and wooden foot bridge into a very large field. Go across field keeping hedge on right hand side. At end of field go over concrete foot bridge and bear slightly right on main track. Keep on track IGNORE ANY OTHER TURNINGS. Keep on main track with farm building ahead of you. Where track ends go through small gates ahead of you, over wooden foot bridge bear slightly right then left through another small gate into next field keeping hedge on left hand side. Through another gate to reach a large white metal gate. Go through gate onto small lane. Follow lane passing houses on right hand side to reach Main Road. Turn left and cross road onto foot path passing bus shelter, you are now entering the village of Bleasby. After church on right take the 1st turn right into Gypsy Lane. You pass the Wagon and Horses Pub on the left hand side. At the top of the lane the lane bears right you will see the village hall on the left hand side. You go straight ahead there is a house called West Mead go down foot path keeping West Mead on right hand side. At end of path go over stile. Turn left over another stile then turn right follow foot path down keeping hedge on right hand side. At end of field go straight across next field brg 300° through gap in hedge turn left keeping hedge on left hand side for approximately 30 yards. Turn right keeping stream on left hand side. Go down edge of field to the bottom.
At the end of field you reach a track turn right and follow track keeping hedge on left hand side and large field on right hand side. Ignore any other turns or foot path signs keep on track to bottom end. At end of track go through gap in hedge on left hand side then bear right keeping hedge on right hand side and railway on left hand side. As the field becomes very narrow there is a wooded area on left hand side follow edge of wooded area follow path at edge of field to reach lane at side of railway line. Go over stile and lane, over next stile and keep to left hand side of field with hedge and railway on left hand side. At end of field go over stile into other field which is a short field, over next stile into another short field. Beware of electric fencing. Keep on left hand side of field. Ignore foot path sign on left hand side. Turn right keeping hedge on left hand side. Go over stile in middle of hedge go straight ahead over field with large tree in front. Go over stile at side of large tree. Turn right down edge of field keeping hedge on right hand side. You will see a white property ahead of you; you will come to a track turn left on track follow track to bottom. This is now the village of Morton. You will see a sign on the right called Moor Lane. Carry straight on ignore any other turns and bear left towards signal box. Just before railway house turn right over stile keep to left hand side of field railway on left hand side. Follow path on left hand side of field. Ignore any other foot path signs down to bottom end to road. Turn left on road over railway crossing. Flease keep to right hand side of road. Follow road passing occupation Lane on right hand side, white property and stables on right hand side. The road then starts to rise when you are nearly at the top there is a footpath sign turn right and go down steps and keep to path with stream on right hand side and wooded area on left hand side. Go over wooden foot bridge and bear right keeping stream on right hand side. Ahead you will see buildings this is Southwell racecourse. Eventually you will reach a concrete bridge. Turn left and follow edge of field keeping hedge on right hand side. At end of field go through gap in hedge to reach tarmac lane. Turn left DO NOT GO OVER RAILWAY CROSSING. Follow tarmac road, go over a river then turn right down a dirt track keeping some green buildings on left hand side. Carry on, just before white gate turn left with Mill House on right hand side. Go down track turn right over white foot bridge then turn left. Follow edge of stream on left hand side and golf course on right hand side. Go over concrete foot bridge then bear right brg 100 across field go through gap in hedge keeping hedge on left hand side. At end of field bear left then right and follow track over concrete bridge and take track straight ahead. Go over another concrete bridge and take track straight ahead to reach Main road which is the village of Upton. Turn left passing French Horn on left hand side to reach checkpoint 4 at Upton green.
On leaving checkpoint 4 take the lane to the left sign posted Hockerton. Follow lane for approx 20 yds. On the right hand side there is a public footpath sign, turn right. There is a barn conversion on the left (Briar Barn). Go through a metal gate at the side of Corn Barn. Carry straight on through the yard to reach a wooden gate. Go through the gate with a footpath sign on it, and please close the small gate. PLEASE CLOSE ALL GATES BEHIND YOU, AS THIS IS SOMESOMEONE'S GARDEN.
Go over the stile; turn right across lawn to a large gate at the far side of the lawn. DO NOT go over the stile on the left hand side. Go through the large wooden gate with the yellow arrow. When through, go over stile, turn right for a few yards, and then turn left through other gate. Go Straight ahead, keeping hedge on left hand side and fruit trees on right hand side. Halfway down, bear right across field, bearing 400 to reach stile in right hand corner of field. Go over stile and straight ahead over two fields keeping the hedge on your right hand side. At the end of the 2nd field, go over stile on right and then turn left and follow footpath down edge of field keeping hedge on left hand side. Go over stile into 2nd field and go straight ahead, keeping hedge on left hand side to small wood. Follow path on left hand side of wood, down edge of next field to reach small area of trees and main road. Go over main road and over stile on other side of road. Go straight ahead across 1st field into 2nd field and straight ahead. Over stile into 3rd field. Bear right 800 to finger post at edge of wood. Turn left keeping wood on right to reach stile at corner of wood. Go over stile into field and turn right. Take path along edge of field with the wood on the right hand side, dropping down the field until nearly at bottom. Turn right down steps and over a new footbridge into large field. Turn left with ditch on left hand side. Where ditch goes left, go straight ahead, bearing 400 towards small tree. On reaching tree, go down edge of field keeping hedge on right hand side. Follow path down to bottom corner, turn left for a few yards, then turn right over stile into next field. Turn immediately left. Carry on down side of field keeping hedge on left hand side. At end of that field, go over the stile into next field then turn immediately right. Follow path at edge of field, which rises slightly uphill. Keep hedge on right hand side. On reaching top, bear left for a few yards then turn right up track with trees on right hand side to reach a lane. This is now Averham Park Farm. On reaching lane, turn left and follow track which rises slightly, passing some old tin buildings on the right hand side. There is a hedge on each side. Carry along track with only a hedge on the right hand side, and a field on the left hand side. Just before the end of the field take the 1st track on the right hand side and follow it down to the bottom. Turn left for approx 300m as track starts to bear right then left turn right keeping ditch then hedge on right hand side. To reach gap in hedge on right hand side head towards farm buildings keeping new fence on right hand side, on reaching farm buildings bear left keeping to the right hand edge of the field. Follow the right hand edge of the field keeping the wood on the right hand side. DO NOT ENTER WOOD. Keep following the path at the edge of the field keeping the wood on the right, to reach a lane at the end of the wood. Go over the lane into field, there is a new house on the right. Take a bearing of 20° to reach a main road. Go over stile and turn right down the road keeping to the right hand side of the road. Keep on the road, passing a very large redbrick house on the right. Then past Little Manor Farm, and then on past grey house (Knapthorpe Manor). Go around a double bend passing a cottage on the right hand side. Go around another double bend to reach checkpoint 5.
Enter the field by checkpoint 5 and go across the field bearing 180° to reach a footbridge. Go over the footbridge into next field, and go across field bearing 18o° to reach footbridge in the middle of the hedge. Cross footbridge into field and turn right along edge of field, keeping hedge and ditch on right hand side. Go over stile into next field and go straight ahead, still keeping hedge and ditch on right hand side. DO NOT go over stile at end, instead turn left and follow footpath at the edge of the field, keeping hedge on right hand side. At the end of the field, go straight ahead down wide track passing houses and barn conversions on left hand side. This is Muskham Woodhouse Farm. Follow track down to reach lane, turn left down lane, then take first right into another lane. Follow that lane passing Coldharbour on the right hand side to reach footpath sign and checkpoint 6.
Follow track across middle of field, go over stile into next field and bear left 130°, crossing over ditch at bottom right hand side. After crossing ditch turn left and follow path, keeping wood on left hand side to reach stile in bottom left hand corner. Go over the stile, into wood and follow path straight ahead keeping small ditch on left hand side to reach the other side of the wood. IGNORE ANY OTHER FOOTPATHS IN THE WOOD.
At the end of the wood go over the stile and bear slightly right between trees to reach track, bearing 130° Follow track straight ahead over 3 fields to reach road. Turn right on the road and follow for approx ¾ of a mile to reach the Kelham Fox public house and the finish.
