Cleveland Survival
The Cleveland Survival is a challenge event, which requires navigation and survival abilities as no waymarking given. The event is friendly, fun and informal whilst allowing space for the serious competitor. The route is changed each year but always combines moorland and vale walking.
General Information
Notes, for the guidance of applicants to the Cleveland Survival
- The event is a challenge to complete all orienteering course of 26 miles within the 12-hour time limit. There will be about 5 checkpoints identified by a grid reference and description your aim is to visit each checkpoint in the order given on the route card
- The location of the event centre is notified to applicants by post at least 3 weeks in advance of the event, Details of start times and event numbers are also sent. If requested a list of places offering overnight accommodation in the locality or a telephone number for a Tourist Information Centre will be provided
- The organisers will arrange car parking and some marshalling. Look out for the triangular SURVIVAL directional markers. Start times are staggered at 2 minute intervals between 8 and 9 am Sufficient time should be left to travel from the car park to the event centre to register and reach the start before your start time - an allowance of at least 1 hour is recommended
- A description card must be completed and submitted at registration prior to the issue of your clip card. The clip card must be punched at each of the checkpoints to avoid disqualification Instructions given at the start must be carefully followed to avoid disqualification. Read carefully any additional information given oil the route card The checkpoints have closing times that will be enforced at the discretion of the organisers In the event of Search and Rescue duties or serious adverse weather conditions the event route may be altered or abandoned at the discretion of the organisers
- Water is provided at two of the checkpoints and hot and cold drinks will normally be available at a third checkpoint
- Follow the country code and stay on rights of way unless other permission has been explicitly given Please show courtesy to landowners if approached and refer any problems to the next checkpoint
- Upon completion of the event, or if you have dropped out the route card must be submitted to the finish if the route card is not returned we will presume that you are missing
- Hot food and drinks will be available at the finish. The presentation to winners will normally take place at about 2.30pm 3.00pm, spot prizes be awarded to other competitors upon their return
- The photographs that are taken of all competitors at the finish will be sent together with a copy of the event newsletter, results, punched route cards, following years application forms and badges to all Survivors about 8 weeks after the event. Badges are only sent to those completing the event within 12 hours
- The survival is supposed to enjoyable, we hope that you will feel welcome and enter the Survival in a spirit of friendly competitiveness
