Start outside The Post Office. AH down Chapel Lane then AH on Wheatgrass Lane. Follow TK then grass path for 2 Km. TR on hedged TK for 1 Km TL on RD, follow RD for 1 Km. At cross-roads AH on new road heading for Karting Track to end of bank and TL keeping bank on L. AH on TK, TR at T junc AH on same winding TK for 1 Km to TR for 100m. At RD/TK/Drive Junc (do not go on tarmac road) go ½ L onto TK following BW WM, AH 100m then TL on TK. At T junc TR, 50m TL, AH keeping HG, then FD on L. TL on RD for 1 Km to:
Stubton Village Hall (GR 873489) — 10 Km / 6 miles
Keep AH to Junc. Follow RD sign to Dry Doddington. AH on RD for 1 Km. At RD junc TL (signposted to Littlegates Nursery) AH to nursery, (please note long and short route split). TR onto TK, AH on TK, past farm buildings, staying on same TK to gap in HG, AH to cross FD (no clear path) to FB. Over FB go anticlockwise around H), keep to FD edge, railway on R. Go under railway bridge. Keep on same TK for 1 Km to exit on RD. TL, follow RD to HOUGHAM. TR into Coach Road, follow RD to Church. Thro church yard following FP WM to:
Hougham Church (GR 886441) — 15 Km / 10 miles
Over FB, TL, over another FB, AH on clear path thro FD. At RD TL to exit on Stonepit Lane in the village of MARSTON (N.B. There is a shop and a public house if required). Go across RD to the Thorold Arms and continue down School Lane, follow RD round to R. TL at BW WM (Hougham Mill Lane — not Mill Lane). At end of TK, AH thro gate, TR thro gate down double fenced TK. TL at junc then TL onto concrete TK, follow round to R and then to R of Sewage Works to:
Railway Bridge (GR 910426) — 19 Km / 12 miles
Go under railway bridge, thro gate, TL, 60m TR, 300m TL. At river TR. Follow TK by river then TR uphill, TL to steel bridge, over bridge, AH on TK to brick bridge, over bridge. Follow TK under railway bridge to TK junc, TL, follow RD into BARKSTON (N.B. There is a shop and public house if required ) to exit on West Street. Cross main road (take care) AH into Church Lane with pub on R to:
Barkston School (GR 931415) — 22 Km / 14 miles
TR continue up Church Lane past church to TR up dead end. Follow RD for 1 Km uphill. At top of hill continue in same direction along TK and then in same direction along RD keeping Airfield on L to the B6403 (Roman Road — Ermine Street). Cross main RD (take care) to:
Ermine Street (GR 973407) — 26 Km / 17 miles
TR and then quickly TL to BW WM and follow WM, keeping the HG on your LEFT, go through gap in hedge DO NOT FOLLOW PATH AROUND TO YOUR RIGHT after approx 1 Km just before HG corner TL thro gap and over ditch, TR to cont with HG on your R. At obvious HG corner continue along obvious path to post. TL with farm buildings on your R to exit onto RD in corner of field. TL, follow RD for 1 Km, at cross roads TR, follow RD for WILSFORD. Cont past the pumping station / aerial, after 300m TL at BW WM, keep HG on R, cont in the same direction with HG on R to gate. TR thro gate to follow woodland TK to RD. EXTRA CARE. TL, then at traffic lights TR to go thro ANCASTER. (N.B. There is a shop and public house if required ). After approx 500m at the phone box TR thro the car park to:
Ancaster Playing Field Pavillion (GR 984438) — 34 Km / 21 miles
Return out thro the car park to the main road, TR, at the Post Office TL over RD to go down Water Lane, after 100m TR onto public byway thro FD, go across the level crossing, continue uphill to RD, cross RD to TK, follow TK for 600m to a line trees, just after go ½ L (CB 320) across FD, thro 2 HG's, AH to TK, TR. Straight on at path junc keeping wall on R. Straight on at RD. At road junction go straight AH on grass TK for 50 m. At 2nd BW WM go ½ L (CB 290) across FD to TK. TR to College Buildings. At junc TL onto RD, after 200m TR at FP WM, across 4 ST's, continue in same direction thro thistles, TL, then R to wooden hut. At far end of hut TL into FD downhill, keep HG on R. At the bottom follow HG around to L, then R. AH to gate, then ST, to TK. Follow TK to RD. Cross RD (TAKE CARE ) to Old Lincoln Road. Follow RD round to R then 'run' the last 400m to the playing field on your right and finish in the pavilion.
