Turn right at the Community Hall, right at the road junction and after 500 yards turn left at the next road junction and down the hill to a rough surfaced lane your left. Follow this lane passed the waterworks house and over Swinsty Reservoir and right for 500 yards to the left hand lane, follow the lane uphill, passed Swinsty Hall, through the wood and over the fields to Timble Village [GR 179.529]. Continue along the tarmac road and cross the Pateley Bridge Otley road along the access track for 800 yards and take the left hand lane to the stile and open moor.
At the stile follow the footpath north west to Round Hill [GR 122.537] (not to Middleton) passing a circular shooting butt after about ¾ mile. Follow the path downhill, over the stream and up again over a wooden stile passed the old Ripon—Ilkley signpost keeping to the left hand side of the wall to the top of Round Hill. Proceed now in a South Westerly direction across the private moor to Beamsley Beacon [GR 098.524] and down the hill to the roadside checkpoint.
Walk down the hill to the farm track on the right, follow this track for about 400 yards and take the left hand footpath sign 50 yards before Ling Chapel Farm through the gate and down the field to the footbridge over Kex Beck. Climb the grass track up the hill to the dwellings at Deerstones [GR 088.528]. Pass through the gate between the buildings and cross the main A59 road continue along the footpath through the field opposite and along the walled grass lane to the twin stone stiles. Climb over the right hand one and keep the wall to your left through the next couple of fields. Cross the open field, over the wooden stile and walk diagonally across the left hand corner of the field and take the right hand of the two stone stiles at the wall. Turn right and follow the field edge with the wall on your right to the wooden footpath sign and over that stone stile to the gate near the farm buildings. Pass through the gate and diagonally across the field corner to the stone stile and turn left at the lane. The lane passes between Storiths Farm Buildings [GR 081.543] and terminates at a small wooden gate. Pass through the gate, follow the walled path down and turn right at the next gate to follow the right hand bank of the River Wharfe through the woods then along the river bank to the Checkpoint at Cavendish Pavilion Bridge.
Large cafe and toilets here, makes an ideal stopping point for those who wish to linger a while. Now continue up the farm lane to Bolton Park Farm, through the iron gate and the next four gates to the open moor. Keep straight on at the last gate until a 'Y' junction in the track. Take the left hand up the hill and keep right at the next 'Y' junction following the ridge to Rocking Hall.
Leave Rocking Hall through the small gate in the wall South East down the hill and over the beck, passed Splittle Ings Farm House to join the tarmac road [GR 145.570]. Turn left, right and left again to Thruscross Reservoir following the tarmac road all the while.
Follow the path down the steps alongside the wire fence to join a green lane for about 600 yards where a footpath leads down to a wooden bridge over the River Washburn. Walk diagonally away from the river to follow the higher path along an embankment/lane through the wood, passed the farm to join the Pateley Bridge road. Turn right down the hill to the A59, right again then left into the small car park and the checkpoint.
Leave on the permitted track along the edge of the reservoir. At the lifebouy point, take the track on the right through the trees to the road. Turn left on the road and continue on it to the checkpoint.
Take the Water Authority Lane at the right hand of the road and follow the reservoir to the dam wall where you can then retrace your route back to the finish at the Community Centre.
